Greetings People of Action!
Welcome to November and the month we should be to be thankful when in reality, we should be thankful every month of the year. I love this quote by American philosopher, Eric Hofer that says, “The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings”. Blessed we are, and I am grateful for many, many things in my life including Rotary.
I hope everyone had a fun Halloween with your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and of course the pesky neighborhood kids. Whoa, I sounded like my dad! It seems once Halloween hits, the balance of the year goes into hyper speed. To that end, it’s hard to believe the holidays are right around the corner, and someone’s got his list and he’s checking it twice. He’s checked it thrice for me…looks like I’m not making the cut again this year.
I had the pleasure of visiting and giving a membership presentation at another club in October. I received a warm welcome from President Shane Arch of the Rotary Club of San Gorgonio Pass. I was impressed at how enthusiastic these Rotarians were at 7:00am, great job!
As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, if you have not set up your MyRotary.org account. I encourage you to do so when you have a moment. The amount of information and resources will blow your mind! There’s a learning opportunity around every bend.
As I said last month, I will include membership resources directly from MyRotary.org to assist you with your membership efforts; last month’s topic was to “Assess and adapt”. This month’s topic is “Engage current members”.
Engage current members:
Use these resources to learn strategies that will keep members involved:
- Best Practices for Engaging Members — Take this Learning Center course to develop strategies for engaging people at all stages of membership.
- Engaging and Keeping Members — Learn when and why members leave your club and generate strategies to keep them engaged.
- Designing Your Rotary Experience — Encourage members to consider all the ways they can make connections, participate in meaningful service, become a leader, expand their perspective, and design their own Rotary experience.
- Understanding Why Members Leave — Use this exit survey to address the reasons that members may be leaving your club.
- Club Innovation Stories (audio recordings) — A series of recorded stories highlighting the innovative work being done by clubs all around the world.
- Recognize members for their dedication and service to the club, community and to our organization.
- Connect members with opportunities to develop their professional skills and expand their networks.
- Video Meeting Content – Use these videos from recent Rotary events to supplement your club meetings. Videos range from 10-25 minutes.
While your club’s membership chair will take the lead on this info, I think it’s important for all members to have access to become better educated about Rotary membership. Next month’s membership article will include information about Connecting with prospective members.
Pausing my article for this important message. If you are still reading this, please text me at 909-730-0447 and ask me to send you your $25 Amazon gift card. The first person to respond will win the card!
I would love to visit and give a membership presentation at your club soon! You know how to reach me.
Thank you for all you do for Rotary, and for your community. I look forward to seeing you soon, stay safe and be blessed.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Al Rubio
